Proficiency in a Non-English Language Demonstrated by One of the Following:

• Successful completion of Reed language courses:
  ⇒ Two units at a second-year level,
  OR
  ​⇒ One unit at a higher level;
• Department approval of language courses taken elsewhere, including:
  ⇒ Successful completion of language courses taken in secondary (high) school or at another college/university, 
  AND/OR
  ​⇒ Successful completion of a language placement examination at Reed;
• Department approval following an assessment of language proficiency in a non-English language, including heritage languages, commensurate with at least two years of college-level coursework.

A Minimum of Seven Units in Anthropology, Including:

• ANTH 211 - Introduction to Anthropology: History, Theory, Method
• One course in a specific geographic area
• One 400-level course (excluding 470)
• A minimum of three linguistic anthropology courses (preferably including ANTH 201: Language, Culture, Power )

Allied Field: Three Units in Linguistics:

• LING 211 - Introduction to Linguistic Analysis
• LING 212 - Introduction to Sociolinguistic Patterns
• One 300- or 400-level linguistics course (excluding 470).
