ANTH 211 - Introduction to Anthropology: History, Theory, Method

A minimum of three CRES-foundational or CRES-designated Anthropology units:

A minimum of two units of geographic area courses:

Proficiency in a non-English language, demonstrated by one of the following:

Successful completion of Reed language courses:
⇒ Two units at a second-year level,
OR
⇒ One unit at a higher level;
Committee approval of language courses taken elsewhere, including:
⇒ Successful completion of language courses taken in secondary (high) school or at another college/university,
AND/OR
⇒ Successful completion of a language placement examination at Reed;
Committee approval following an assessment of language proficiency in a non-english language, including heritage languages, commensurate with at least two years of college-level coursework.

Recommended but Not Required:

CRES explicitly focuses on the comparative study of race and ethnicity across borders and boundaries. Consequently, the committee strongly recommends as many of the following as possible:

One or more units of CRES courses with an explicit comparative/transnational element.
Study abroad.
