REL 344 - Augustine of Hippo It would be difficult to overstate the importance of Augustine of Hippo for Western religious thought, political theory, and understandings of human interiority. This course is devoted to the careful reading of a limited number of his major works, supplemented by recent scholarship that addresses Augustine’s social-historical context, philosophical and theological commitments, and anthropology.
