PSY 253 - Psychedelics and Mental Health: From Taboo to Therapeutic This course explores the psychology of psychedelics with an emphasis on brain mechanisms of action, applications for transcendence (i.e., enhanced spiritual experiences, altered consciousness, embracing the reality of death), and clinical uses for the treatment of psychiatric disorders (i.e., addiction, depression, PTSD). Topics will be examined through the lens of both popular nonfiction and empirical research articles.
