Poetry Sage: Readings in Works of Du Fu (712-770)
This course aims to do close reading of Du Fu’s poetry, with an emphasis on analyzing the use of allusion used for historical, cultural, and poetic depths. Readings will try to go beyond frequently anthologized “masterpieces,” by locating poems to be selected in broader contexts. Students are expected to be trained in broad browsing and close analysis.
