Majors and Minors

Majors

Reed students have the opportunity to major in a wide variety of department-based or interdisciplinary fields.

To supplement established majors , ad hoc programs that link two or more disciplines may be approved. The student’s advisers (from each of the relevant areas) and the departments and/or interdisciplinary committees concerned must review and approved the student’s proposed program. To be admitted to a major, see Declaration of Major .

Minors

Students may elect to complete a minor in fields where a minor has been established. Minors typically require five or six courses, and represent an identifiable level of achievement within the relevant field.

Only the established minors  are available for students to pursue. While there is no limit to the number of minors a student can complete, there are some restrictions as to which minors may be paired with a given major. Refer to the relevant requirements to determine if any minors are excluded.
