Dance with a Concentration in Dance Studies

Students must complete all of the following requirements to graduate with a bachelor of arts in this program. Some courses may apply toward multiple requirements.
College Requirements:
Students are required to complete all standard college requirements.

Major Requirements:
Total major units: 12.5-14
Dance Studies (history, theory, critical and cultural studies):
⇒Courses that satisfy dance studies requirements may not simultaneously satisfy dance studio requirements.
Four additional units in dance studies (excluding 470)
⇒With department permission, one unit of this requirement can be met by a history, theory, or critical or cultural studies course in theatre, music, literature, or art.
Dance Studio (technique, improvisation, choreography, and performance):
⇒Courses that satisfy dance studio requirements may not simultaneously satisfy dance studies requirements.
One unit of choreography or improvisation from:
Three additional units in dance studio (excluding 470)
⇒Credit for dance technique courses (DANC 101 ) may be applied toward this requirement.
A minimum of one unit of the above requirements (studio or studies) must focus on dance outside the Euro-American tradition.
Technical Proficiency
- 300-level technical proficiency in one dance form
- 200-level technical proficiency in a second dance form
Junior Year Requirement:
- Junior qualifying examination
