Students must complete all of the following requirements to graduate with a bachelor of arts in this program. Some courses may apply toward multiple requirements.
College Requirements:
Students are required to complete all standard college requirements.
Division Requirements:
Students are required to fulfill the division requirements for their major.

Major Requirements:
Total major units: 13
Eight Units of Literature:
Two units of 200-level English courses in different genres
- Students should inquire with the English department about appropriate substitutions
A minimum of six units of 300- or 400-level English courses (excluding 470)
- A maximum of one in creative writing
- Students should inquire with the English department about appropriate substitutions, including study abroad
A minimum of two units in literature prior to 1900
- A minimum of one in literature prior to 1700
A minimum of two units in literature in translation
Two Units in 200-level Humanities
- Students wishing to substitute two units more closely allied to their area of interest should consult with their adviser and submit a proposal to the English department
One Unit of Junior Year Requirements:
Recommended, but Not Required:
Poetry and fiction/narrative are recommended for the two units of 200-level English courses in different genres.
