Art with a Concentration in Art History


Students must complete all of the following requirements to graduate with a bachelor of arts in this program. Some courses may apply toward multiple requirements.

College Requirements:

  

Students are required to complete all standard college requirements.

Major Requirements:


Total major units: 14.5 - 18.5, depending on language proficiency

Six and One-half Units in Art History, Including:


Four Units in Studio Art:


  • A minimum of two art courses in different disciplines
  • A maximum of 1 unit may be transferred to Reed from another institution

Proficiency in a non-English language, demonstrated by one of the following:


  • Successful completion of Reed language courses:

    ⇒ Two units in two non-English languages

    OR

    ⇒ Four units in one non-English language

    OR

    ⇒ One unit in one non-English language at the 300 level or higher
  • Department approval of language courses taken elsewhere, which may include:

    ⇒ Successful completion of language courses taken in secondary (high) school or at another college/university, 

    AND/OR

    ⇒ Successful completion of a language placement examination at Reed;
  • Department approval following an individual assessment of language proficiency.

Junior Year Requirements:


  • The following should be completed before taking the junior qualifying exam:

    ⇒Two 100-level art courses (at Reed) in different disciplines

    ⇒ ART 201 - Introduction to the History of Art  

    ⇒ A minimum of one unit of studio art at the 300-level
  • Junior qualifying examination
