Students must complete all of the following requirements to graduate with a bachelor of arts in this program. Some courses may apply toward multiple requirements.

Division Requirements:

Literature and Languages 

Students are required to fulfill the division requirements for their major.

Major Requirements:

Total major units: 10-14, depending on language proficiency

Students may need to satisfy prerequisites before enrolling in courses required for the major.

Chinese Language Proficiency, Demonstrated by One of the Following:

  • Four units of first- and second-year college-level Chinese language,
    OR
  • Departmental waiver in cases where the student has demonstrated proficiency

Six Units from the Following, of Which a Minimum of Four Must Be Taken at Reed

  • One unit in 300- or 400-level Chinese literature prior to the twentieth century (excluding 470)
  • One unit in 300- or 400-level modern or contemporary Chinese literature, film, or film and media (excluding 470)
  • Four additional units in Chinese at the 300 or 400 level
    ⇒a maximum of two may be language classes (excluding 470)
