One unit in the Division of the Arts.

The Student Must Fulfill Either a Literary or Interdisciplinary Curriculum:

Literary curriculum:

  • Eight units in literature courses at the 200 and/or 300 level or higher (excluding 470)
    ⇒A maximum of two 200-level English courses
    ⇒A minimum of three in a single language not in translation at the 300 level or higher

Interdisciplinary curriculum:

  • Six units in literature
    ⇒A minimum of two not in translation at the 300 level or higher (excluding 470)
  • Three additional units in an allied field
    ⇒All allied fields must be approved by the student’s academic adviser and the chair of comparative literature. In developing an allied field, students should consider the Interdisciplinary Programs as a reference.
    ⇒A maximum of one course in studio art, creative writing, theatre performance, or music performance
